BemidjiSculpture.org

The Bemidji Sculpture Walk premiered in the spring of 1999.

It was developed by a team of volunteers working with the Bemidji Community Arts Center (BCAC).

The original theme of the Sculpture Walk was "Minnesota: its people, its diverse culture, its legends, and its natural beauty".

Project developers intended forall sculptures to be installed outdoors in the Bemidji downtown area - from 2nd St. South, by the old Union Station, up to 6th St. North at the Beltrami County Courthouse, and from the Chamber of Commerce building on the Lake Bemidji waterfront at 1st St. and Bemidji Avenue inward 2 blocks to Minnesota Ave.

Our Mission is to:

-enhance the Bemidji downtown area for its residents and for visitors
-draw more foot traffic to the downtown
-create a forum for the display of the work of local and regional artists
-assist in the promotion of Bemidji as a regional cultural center
-build a greater sense of community through display and discussion of the arts
-enhance art education in the area,at all levels

Our Vision is to:

-lead the region in the procurement and display of public art
-grow to become a successful and permanent non-profit organization
-engender a greater solidarity among local arts organizations
-secure a strong and lasting appreciation for all of the arts

Call to Artists - Sculpture Walk 2012

Bemidji's 14th Annual Juried Public Art Exposition

The Sculpture Walk committee will select the 20 best submissions, based on their conceptual strength, originality, and workmanship. These will be presented for 12 months in locations throughout Bemidji. All artists, sponsors, and art lovers are invited to our annual Artist’s reception and awards ceremony here in Bemidji. Come celebrate the installation of the new show. Food and refreshments will be provided. First Prize - $1,000 Is given to the People’s Choice award winner. Second Prize - $500 Is given to the Critic’s Choice award winner. Third Prize - $250 Is given to the Critic’s choice runner up. Honorarium - $300 Is Given to all participating artists. Deadline for entry March 31 Installation begins May 25 Artist & Community Reception May 26 Sculptors must submit the following items via mail or email, postmarked by March 31, 2011: - Completed submission form, available online. - Sculpture title, dimensions, material, price. - Insurance value and installation requirements. - 5-10 images of submitted work (jpeg or printed). - Image list with name, title, media and date. - Written proposals for a sculpture will be accepted, if accompanied by images of relevant work, sketches, plans for proposed work, and detailed descriptions.

By clicking submit, I hereby submit my application to exhibit in the Bemidji Sculpture Walk for the year of 2012 - 2013. I have read and fully accept the conditions set forth in this prospectus as legally binding.

Accepted sculptors must sign this loan agreement in which the owners of the art:

Permit the sponsors of the artwork to install the work with or without the artist's assistance.
Agree that the artwork will remain on display from May 26, 2012 through May 20, 2013.
Agree that BSW/City of Bemidji may remove damaged sculpture in the absence of prompt and satisfactory repair by the artist in the interest of public safety.
Agree that sculptures are covered by the city's liability insurance, but not insured against vandalism or theft. It is suggested but not required that sculptors have individual insurance coverage.
Agree to be responsible for the delivery and pickup of sculptures at the designated times.
Attest that all work is of sound design and free standing. Ready to be placed in an outdoor public space in downtown Bemidji, MN.
