Announcing Northern Minnesota’s premiere public art venue 2017 Call to Artists
The Bemidji Sculpture Walk is Northern Minnesota’s premiere public art venue situated throughout downtown Bemidji, the regional cultural hub of northwest Minnesota. The city of Bemidji sits at the headwaters of the Mississippi River, and is a year round destination for artists, musicians, and outdoor enthusiasts. Tens of thousands of visitors flood our community each year, and our many cultural and community events make the Bemidji Sculpture Walk a highly visible venue for public art.
We want you to be a part of our 19th Annual Sculpture Walk, an artistic tradition for almost two decades. Submissions are juried in based on their conceptual strength, originality, and workmanship. Selected works will be installed and displayed for 12 months in highly visited and curated outdoor locations throughout downtown Bemidji.
The Bemidji Sculpture Walk board is comprised of area artists and art aficionados, and will select 20 new works from regional and national artists who submit their entries prior to February 1, 2017. New work proposals and group projects are also considered each year.
All jury-selected participating artists will receive a cash honorarium of $300 plus consideration for three cash prizes which are awarded at our annual artist reception during the weekend of spring installation. All artwork will be advertised as for sale or loan unless otherwise specified by artist. Due to high visibility and tourism rates in Bemidji, sculptures are frequently discovered by visitors to our downtown and works are purchased each year.
The BSW does reserve a 25% commission on all successful sales of submitted art which is sold during the contract year.
